Kudos: Many people collaborated on this BMW factory & dealer software explanation, especially Quick99Si who ran through all the installs and created a nice collective site for download (including combining & compressing the RAR files to the max!) & RDL who provided clarification on the unintuitive software intricacies.

Hoping one of you BMW coding geniuses can steer me in the right direction or remotely code my ASC ECU to my VIN.Making sense of INPA, EDIABAS, NCSExpert, NCS Dummies, DIS/GT1, EasyDIS, & ProgmanĮDIT: PLEASE IMPROVE! We are constantly updating this first post, as new information comes in (until it won't let us update it anymore). I've searched every thread in English I could find on google with no success with any of the methods posted.

I am not running INPA at the same time as NCS either. My COMM is set to 1 & latency set to 1 & used the same USB port from installation. Seems like it is not seeing my vehicle at all, I have updated all the SP-Datens files from BimmerGeeks with BMW Coding Tool, copied and pasted them in the NCS Exper Datens folders. My real concern is NCS Expert giving me a "VIN IS FAULTY" every time with the 20pin & 16 pin, I have tried using Chassis E89 (which has worked for others) with no prevail. When I hook the 20 pin adapter up to the connection under the hood i have no communication with anything I try to connect too, both black dots light up saying cable detected & ignition On though in INPA. I am able to access INPA through the 16 pin under the dash, it gives me access to the ECU & TCM and that is all. I have a 1996 e39 540i, I bought a K+DCAN cable with the 20 pin adapter.
